Step 1 – Introduction and Create a Location

Introduction and how to create a location - for you as an administrator in Palats

Hi there!

Welcome to Palats, we're so glad to have you here! 🏰

In part 1, we'll go through the first step in Palats, which is setting up the location(s) you're going to inventory. A location is a digital representation of a physical building, office, or similar space.

Who is this for?

This section is for administrators responsible for setting up locations. You’ll likely also be involved in conducting all or part of the inventory and managing user invitations for your organization.

Creating a location

  1. Log in to Palats.io
  2. Go to "Locations" in the left menu.
  3. Click on "Create Location" in the top right corner.
  4. Upload a picture of your location, and fill in the location's Name, Address, and any additional information.

Division through a Floor Plan

This structure is recommended if you're doing a move project or taking inventory in order to know where furniture or building materials are located within a property.

If you choose to take inventory using a floor plan, it's a good idea to add divisions, such as rooms, and then link them to the floor plan. This gives better guidance during the inventory process. If a move plan needs to be created at a later stage, this is an important step for producing a good move planning basis.

  1. Click on "Create a new division" and enter a name and any additional information.
  2. Click to upload a floor plan or drag and drop the floor plan into the box. Then click "Save".
  3. You can now see that there is a small map icon on the division, indicating that the floor plan has been uploaded.
  4. Hover over the floor and click on the + to add rooms to the floor plan.
  5. Select type of division and select create more if you want to add multiple rooms in a row.
  6. When you're done adding the room there will be red links next to the rooms. Click the links to start mapping out the zones on the floor plan.
  7. Click "New Zone" and select a room. Then click once in each corner to outline the room's area. Don’t forget to click "Save Zone" between each room.
  8. When you’re done, click "Continue".
  9. Finish by clicking "Create Location" if you’ve completed setting up your space.

Division through Folder Structure

If you lack a floor plan, you can instead divide your location into a folder structure. In a warehouse or storage room a floor plan isn't always the right fit. Instead, you may need to build your structure across multiple levels, for example aisle, shelf, and compartment.

  1. Click on "create a new division" and enter a name, for example, "Floor 2", and any additional information.

  2. Choose "Save" without uploading any floor plan.

  3. You can now start creating rooms linked to "Floor 2" by hovering over "Floor 2" and clicking on "+".

  4. Once you're done with your location, click "Create location".

Edit a location

You can always edit a location afterward if you, for example, need to add more floors or change the order of rooms.

  1. Click into the location.
  2. Select Edit location in the top right corner.
  3. To rename a division, hover over the division you want to change and click the pencil icon.
  4. To remove a division, hover over the division you want to delete and click the trash icon.
  5. To add a new division, follow the description above in this chapter.
  6. To reorder a division, drag and drop the division you want to move to the desired position.
