Concept definition

Here are definitions of some of the most common terms and concepts found in Palats!

Location

The Location refers to the physical building. You can define it´s structure by adding floors, rooms and zones for example. You can also upload a floor plan for better visualization and clarity.

When you want to pause a location, you inactive it. This makes it possible to an additional location. It´s commonly used for projects where you might want to easily reactivate the location again in the future.

Model

The model is a type of product of which there can be many unique instances (article). Model-specific fields are shared across all article/instances of the same model. If you have the same type of armchair in another color, it is counted as a different model.

Article

The article is the actual piece of furniture/product  - a specific instance belonging to a model. The article has it´s own unique attributes, such as condition and location. Article belonging to the same model therefore share the model specifications but have unique article specifications.

Project

A project is used to group locations and people together, for example during a relocation project. Projects allow you to invite external collaborators to edit or view without giving them full access to your Palats organization. You also define a specific time period for the project by setting a start and end date.

Table view

The Table View is the place to go for all post-inventory tasks and planning.
This is where you go to get a clear overview of your inventory and to decide what to do with everything in the next phase.

Internal reuse - archive

Do you have an article that has been given away, recycled, sold, or perhaps even lost? By archiving, you gain an overview of your inventory, and the articles you archive are deactivated. This means they can no longer be managed or displayed in your inventory. Do you have an article that has been given away, recycled, sold, or perhaps even lost? Marketplace

The marketplace is the platform where all the multiple articles are listed. Here you can purchase the articles in the same way you do on a "normal" website. You can choice if the listings should be with a price or not.

Listing

A listing is the individual page or entry where a specific article is presented for sale in a marketplace. It includes information such as images, descriptions and specifications of the article.

Analyze

The reports in analyze allow your organization to track usage of Palats and the savings you are unlocking by reusing, in different dimensions such as CO2e or money.

Definition of all the different prices

Purchase price

The purchase price is simply what your organization paid for the article when you bought it.

Equivalent new price

This value is used in Palats to calculate the savings made through reuse and is set on the model.

Note that the equivalent new price can differ drastically from the purchase price. Take, for example, the classic Swedish "String shelf". When it was launched in the 1940s, a regular String shelf cost €5. But a new equivalent String shelf today might cost around €300. So when reusing a vintage String shelf, the purchase price is €5, while the equivalent new price is €300!

Estimated value

This is an optional field you can fill in for an article to assign it an internal valuation. It can be useful, for example, during inventories or when planning a sale. It refers to the price an article would have if purchased brand new today.

Concepts for the administration:

Settings on the marketplace

As an administrator, you can make a variety of adjustments, such as customizing the appearance and updating the content in storefront. You can give your homepage a more personal look by uploading a banner and your logo. You can also add information in the footer, which is displayed at the bottom of the marketplace. You regulate the flow of listings between the vendor and the target group.

Vendors

These are groups that can create ads on the marketplace. You can also configure which delivery options are available for each advertiser.

Target groups

To decide who gets to see what, you use Target groups. This means you can control which listings different users (target groups) have access to. Example: One target group may only see listings from vendors 1, while another can see listings from vendors 1, 2 and 3.

Exposure rules

Vendors and target groups are connected through exposure rules. Exposure rules determine which target groups have access to and can view the listings from specific Vendors.

Access level

At Palats there are three basic access levels: Owner, Editor and member. As the owner, you decide which access level each user should have, based on their specific needs.

Roles

Roles define what a user can do. Palats helps you create multiple roles that´s adjusted tailored to your organisation, which you can assign  to your users, each with the same or different permissions in each role.
