Palats introduced a new condition scale in May 2024. Starting from January 2025, we will no longer support the old condition scale.
Why we introduced a new condition scale
Palats' goal is to make reuse the first choice. This means reusing must become easier—preferably as easy as buying new. Throughout the year, we have focused heavily on improving our marketplace, which is the obvious way to find reused articles. To quickly determine whether an article is of interest, it's important to understand its condition while browsing through listings. This was a major drawback of the old condition scale, as the same listing could contain articles of widely varying conditions.
After a long evaluation and many customer dialogues, we concluded that getting a quick overview of an article's condition is more important than specifying exact types of conditions during inventory. Therefore, we chose to combine both visual and functional conditions into a simple A–E condition scale. Our new condition scale is also compatible with Hållbar e-handel's new scale (Sustainable E-commerce - a Swedish industry initiative for a more sustainable e-commerce).
Logistics is no longer part of the condition scale. If you have comments regarding logistics, we recommend using free text or other tags instead.

How listings are affected
If you have articles listed that still use the old condition scale, they will now display as Not specified. Therefore, we recommend updating the condition of these articles as soon as possible.
When you update the condition of listed articles, the listings are automatically updated. Depending on the new condition assigned to the articles, listings may be split into new listings based on the new condition.
How we convert old conditions to the new condition scale
The new condition encompasses both visual and functional aspects. When we developed suggestions for converting the old condition scale to the new one, we disregarded comments and logistics. However, all conditions and comments are included as text in the new condition's comment section, so no information is lost.
In the condition update tool, you can see how we plan to convert the conditions or which condition we suggest when manually selecting a condition. To avoid assigning a misleading condition to articles, we have chosen to be conservative in condition setting.
Condition E is the only condition where functionality is affected, and it is therefore handled differently from conditions A–D. For Condition E, we recommend separate listings on the marketplace, and when creating multiple listings, articles with this condition will automatically be split into separate listings.
