Reuse Hub - How to Succeed!

Here we have gathered our best tips for how you cn succeed with your reuse hub

What is a reuse hub?

A reuse hub is a digital reflection of a physical storage facility. By using Palats, it becomes easy to see what items are available in a storage facility, reserve them, and pick up what you need.

Each time an item is picked up, the reuse is logged, allowing you to track statistics on the financial savings, reduced emissions, and waste quantities that you achieve.

What do you need to get started with your reuse hub?

Wether you have several smaller storage units or one large warehouse, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Choose a suitable location - regardless of whether it´s multiple small storage spaces or one larger facility.
  • Ensure good loading and unloading access.
  • Decide how access will work: digital keys, access cards, or physical keys.
  • Clear out the space, install shelving and clearly label where each item should go.
  • Clean and in good condition - Only store items that you would consider reusing and that are whole and clean.
  • Mark a clear drop-off area (with tape or signage)  for items that are to be added to the hub.
  • Make sure QR codes are in place for registration.
  • Equip the facility with a measuring tape, gloves and other basic tools.
  • Put up signage from Palats, such as information about drop-off, labeling and usage.

Routine and tips for operation and use

Responsibility and Inventory 👥

  • Appoint one or more responsible persons to ensure quality control and keep inventory of the items added to the hub.
  • Take clear photos during inventory - preferably also of any product labels or markings.
  • Check out Palats Tips & Tricks for guidance on how to take good photos during inventory.

Drop-off and Pick-up 🏘️

  • Create a clear marked drop-off area.
  • Put up Palats guides and signs that explain how the system works.
  • Establish internal routines for:
    • What items are allowed to be dropped off
    • Who is responsible for testing and cleaning
    • How documentation should be handled
  • At the exit, place a reminder sign asking users to check out before leaving the hub.

Equipment and cleaning 🛠️

  • Ensure access to power outlets for testing items such as appliances or electronics.
  • Keep cleaning supplies easily accessible in a designated area.
  • Maintain order and label tools and materials that are availble for use in the hub.

Set up a goal and track your progress

An important aspect of reuse is creating engagement among all employees in the organization. One way to do this is to showcase the results you achieve internally and let everyone see how your reuse efforts are progressing.

In Analyze, we have a feature that allows you to set your own reuse goals, such as CO2e savings and financial savings, and track them in a cumulative graph.

Make it a rule not to deposit anything in a hub that you yourself wouldn't consider reusing.
