The difference between Model ID and Item ID
When you take inventory of an item in Palats, you create a new model that receives a model ID. In the case where you have multiple copies of the same model, you make duplicates. Each duplicate then receives a unique item ID but belongs to the same model ID.
Specifications
When you take inventory, you begin by selecting a product category, and you will then see specifications tailored to the product category you've chosen. If you're taking inventory of a door, it will request specifications like frame depth and security class. If you're taking inventory of a chair, it will ask for different specifications, such as seat height and upholstery.
The specifications are divided into model specifications and item specifications.
Model specifications are overarching for all copies belonging to the model and can include measurements, color, and material, for example.
Item specifications are unique for each individual copy of a model and can include details like the manufacturing year, purchase price, condition, and tags.
What's the difference between model and item specifications when you're editing an item?
If you want to edit an item, changes made to a model-specific field will be applied to all copies associated with the model. If you make a change to an item-specific field, the change will only apply to the individual copy of the model.
